Welcoming Message

It is my pleasure to invite you to support and participate in the third Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES), which will be held from 21 to 24 November 2019 in Hong Kong.

A flagship event co-hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, GIES aims at promoting the application of innovative technologies and ideas to enhance the quality of life of the elderly and help us cope with a rapidly ageing population. The HKSAR Government is committed to exploring with stakeholders, the elderly and their carers how the development and wider adoption of gerontechnology can help the aged continue to enjoy their golden years in an active, comfortable and dignified manner in the community. GIES plays an pivotal part in the process.

Since its inaugural launch two years ago, GIES has successfully developed into an effective platform for enhancing public awareness of the potential of gerontechnology, and has driven forward the implementation of new projects and initiatives on application of innovative technological solutions in elderly care in the local context. Entering its third year, GIES 2019 will be held in the largest scale ever with a view to pooling together more industry practitioners, solution providers and service organisations to showcase their latest innovations and good practices as well as deliberate on issues and subjects relevant to enhancing the well-being of the aged generation.

I look forward to your active support and participation to make GIES 2019 a great success.

Chief Secretary for Administration
The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

The Hong Kong Council of Social Service and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government co-hosted the Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES) since 2017, marking the milestone for adopting innovation and technology to improve the quality of life of elders and their carers in Hong Kong.

The Expo attracted all walks of participants. Representatives from relevant government departments, elderly service industry, research institutes, manufacturers, media, as well as the public were given an opportunity to better understand the development of gerontechnology across the world.

GIES is not only a public education programme that promotes the use of gerontechnology. The HKCSS also makes use of the event to build the link between products and services, and accelerate technology adoption in elderly and rehabilitation care. Examples including product trials at service units, bringing in new resources for NGOs to provide new services using gerontech products, supporting the government in launching the Innovation and Technology Fund for Application in Elderly and Rehabilitation Care and the development of the gerontechnology equipment rental service for home users. With the launching of a one-billion-dollar fund by the government to subsidize elderly and rehabilitation units to purchase gerontech products, HKCSS will continue to promote the use of gerontechnology so as to enhance the quality of concerned services.

GIES scheduled for November this year will showcase more local and overseas innovative products for visitors to examine their unique features and applications. This will definitely be an eye-opening experience for everyone. We look forward to your participation and support.
